The Caney Valley Bullpups and Lady Pups advance to the championship games in the Ramona Invitational; the guys defeated Barnsdall 78-32, while the girls win a thriller in overtime, 60-55 over Cleveland.
Elyn Washburn led the Lady Pups with 22 points and Molleigh Kaminska added 16 in the win, to improve their record to 9-0 on the season. Team defense was big once again, with steals leading to fast break opportunities, especially in the 4th quarter and overtime.
Cleveland got into foul trouble in the 4th quarter and overtime; four key members fouled out on a roster of ten.
For the guys, Layne Denny led the team with 21 points, including five three-pointers, and Colt Hightower added 19, including three dunks. Gavin Messner and Braydon Messner had nine points apiece for the Pups, who improve to 7-2 on the season. The Pups scored 21 points in the 1st quarter, 23 in the 2nd, and 20 in the 3rd to jump out to a comfortable lead.
The Lady Pups will play for the championship beginning at 5:30 p.m., with the guys playing for the championship at 7:00 p.m. The games will be broadcasted on Sonshine 98.9, KQQF.
