Iola Senior Among Leading Scorers in State

One of the best scorers in the state of Kansas has been leading the Iola Mustangs to success in his senior season.

Guard Corland Carson has lived up to the lofty expectations set in the preseason, when he was named as a Preseason Player to Watch by Sports in Kansas. Carson is averaging 25.5 points per game through the first six games of the season, and has kept the Mustangs competitive with a 3-3 record.

Carson scored a season-high 38 points against Osage City earlier in the season, which is one of the highest single game scoring outputs by any high school player in Kansas this season. In his junior year, Cortland averaged 18.3 points per game and was named second-team All-State by Sports in Kansas.

Carson and the Mustangs had their first scheduled game of 2025 postponed due to weather, and will be back on the court tomorrow night against Osawatomie.
