The Red Raven men's basketball team earned their biggest win of the season on Saturday, beating #5 Butler on the road 70-61 in a doubleheader split.
Coffeyville opened the game leading by six, but quickly found themselves down 10 following a 16-0 run by the Grizzlies. The Ravens were able to earn a two-point lead at the half, thanks to key scores by Justin Taylor, Rashid Kuta, and Brian Griffith.
Assistant Coach Jordan Bailey says this is the perfect way to start the 2025 portion of the season.
The second half was a back and forth affair, with both teams trading scores and defensive stops on an afternoon that saw 10 ties and eight lead changes. With the game tied at 51 with six minutes left, Coffeyville went on a massive 9-0 to seize the lead for good.
Bailey says the team was able to play their best when it mattered most.
Taylor had 18 to lead the Ravens, who improve to 11-3 on the year, and 7-1 in conference play. CCC sits second in the KJCCC, a half game behind first place Cowley.
The Lady Ravens fell in the opener 52-48, and dropped to 10-3 on the season. Coffeyville faced multiple double digit deficits throughout the course of the game, and couldn't quite come all the way back. Karys Washington had a great day, finishing with 11 points, 13 rebounds, seven assists, and three blocks.
Head Coach Tony Turner says they'll be working on more consistency offensively.
The Ravens return to Nellis Hall on Wednesday night, welcoming the Pratt Beavers to town.
