Longhorns, Buckeyes Advance to CFP Semifinals

The college football playoff quarterfinals are nearly complete, with two more teams punching their tickets to the semifinals.

The Texas Longhorns defeated the Arizona State Sun Devils 39-31 in double overtime in the Peach Bowl. Texas held a 16-point lead in the fourth quarter before ASU stormed back, but the Longhorns made enough plays late to hang on.

Texas Head Coach Steve Sarkisian says it's a testiment to the team's toughness.

Arizona State was Big 12 champions after being picked to finish in last place in the preseason rankings. Head Coach Kenny Dillingham says he's proud of the team's journey to this moment.

In the Rose Bowl, Ohio State got revenge on the Oregon Ducks, racing to a 41-21 victory. OSU led 34-0 late in the first half, and got big play touchdowns from Jeremiah Smith and TreVeyon Henderson, and 319 yards passing from former Kansas State quarterback Will Howard.

Head Coach Ryan Day says they are one of the nation's best when they're clicking.

It is the first loss of the season for Oregon, who began 13-0 and were champions of the Big Ten conference. Head Coach Dan Lanning says they struggled to slow down the Buckeyes.

Ohio State and Texas will play in the Cotton Bowl in Dallas next Friday, while Penn State awaits the winner of Georgia and Notre Dame.
