The Caney Valley Bullpups sweep the Dewey Bulldoggers in high school baseball action tonight in Caney. The girls won 49-46, while the guys won 76-66.
It was a close contest for most of the girls game; the score was tied at halftime and tied again at the end of the third quarter. Dewey had a chance to tie with .5 seconds remaining in regulation, but couldn't get the shot off.
Elyn Washburn led Caney with 12 points and Sarah Martinez added 11 for the Lady Pups, who improved to 4-0 as the head into Christmas break. Molleigh Kaminska and Gracie Eden had seven points apiece.
For the guys, points in the paint was a big difference the game. Ben Matthews led Caney in scoring with 19 points, followed by Peyton Darden with 17. Colt Hightower and Gavin Messner had 13 points apiece.
Dewey led 32-26 at the half, but early fouls caught up with the Bulldoggers. Four players fouled out in the 4th quarter.
Caney improves to 2-2 as they head into Christmas break.
Caney will be back in action Tuesday, January 7th, as Nowata comes to town for a doubleheader.
