The first half of the basketball season is over in the Jayhawk conference, with the Red Ravens splitting a doubleheader with the Cowley Tigers at Nellis Hall.
The Lady Ravens rallied from an 18-point deficit in Game 1, defeating Cowley 81-73 in overtime. There were stretches of strong and poor play throughout the afternoon, but the Ravens pulled away in overtime. Assistant Coach Sierra McBride says the team was able to survive the Cowley storm.
Norika Welch finished with a game high 27 points, the most scored in a game by any Lady Raven this season. Karys Washington and Aubrey Hishaw combined for 29 points and 21 rebounds. McBride says the defense also had their best game in a while.
On the men's side, a back and forth thriller narrowly went the way of the Tigers, with Cowley earning a 64-63 win. Justin Taylor had a shot for the win as time expired, but it bounced off the front rim.
Assistant Coach Jordan Bailey says despite the loss, the season is off to a very good start.
Taylor led the team with 13 points, and the defense forced 20 Tiger turnovers. Taylor says the sky is the limit for this group.
The Lady Ravens enter the break at 10-2, and in third in the conference, while the men are 10-3, and second in the KJCCC.
