Nado & Pups Split Doubleheader

The Caney Valley Bullpups and the Field Kindley Golden Tornado split a doubleheader in high school basketball action tonight; Caney won the girls matchup 58-54, while Coffeyville won the guys game 62-54 in overtime.
All four teams experienced their first regular season games with a 35 second shot clock, but handled it well. There was only one shot clock violation early in the girls game.
The Lady Pups were led by timely three pointers from senior Gracie Eden and freshman point guard Elyn Washburn, and low post scoring and defense from seniors Sarah Martinez and Addison Regis and sophomore Molleigh Kaminska.
Caney led 39-27 at the half, but the Lady Nado climbed used a strong second half Kaylin Caron, Taylor Caron, Erin Lopez and Kiara Jennings to pull within four. Timely free throws led to the Lady Pup victory.

The boys game saw many lead changes through the first three quarters, with neither team able to get above a nine point lead. The Nado, with ten seniors on the team, were able to use their in game experience to their advantage when they tied the score at 52-52 with less than five seconds to go in the 4th quarter. An incredible in bounds pass from Aaron Tunstall to Jake Horner gave the Nado the lead for good in overtime.
The Pups showed off their team depth with multiple players like Colt Hightower, Layne Denny, Gavin Messner and Kale Owen able to run the offense, and Ben Matthews and Payton Darden provided a solid presence in the post.
The Nado will be in action next Tuesday in the Nowata tournament, while Caney will be back in action Tuesday night against Galena.
