A nationally recognized junior college rivalry is renewed on the basketball court tomorrow night, when the Hutchinson Blue Dragons host the Coffeyville Red Ravens in doubleheader action.
The women's game features a battle of undefeated teams, with Coffeyville 8-0 on the season, and defending national champion Hutchinson 10-0 thus far in their quest for a repeat. The Red Ravens will be playing their first game in eight days, and Hutchinson Head Coach John Ontjes says he's not sure what to expect.
Coffeyville is the most recent team to defeat the Lady Dragons, back in the 2022-23 Region VI Quarterfinals. Ontjes says the Lady Ravens always bring one of their toughest games.
On the men's side, a matchup of talented teams may be overshadowed by a matchup of Hall of Famer Jay Herkelman, against his former assistant coach Kyle Fisher, who is in his first season as head coach at Hutchinson.
Fisher previously served as Head Coach at Butler for five seasons, and has had success against Herkelman in recent years. Fisher says he always has this game circled.
The Dragons feature a nice blend of size, speed, and athleticism. Fisher says the Ravens are a very tough and talented team.
Coverage of Coffeyville and Hutchinson begins tomorrow at 5 p.m. CT on US 98.
