High school basketball season begins next week across Southeast Kansas, and the Cherryvale Lady Chargers are looking to maintain their status as contenders in the Tri-Valley League.
The Chargers are led by seventh year head coach Kelsey Overacker, and are coming off of a 13 win 2023-24 season. The team will be looking to replace a pair of key seniors, after the graduation of Bethany Umbarger and Jailee Reister.
Overacker says it helps when underclassmen receive minutes for the team early.
The Chargers have built a team identity around defense and speed, using their athleticism to race away from conference opponents. Overacker says it will be key to have a strong defense again this year.
The Lady Chargers open their season on December 6th against the Riverton Rams.
