It was a very successful night for Red Raven basketball, as CCC sweeps the first doubleheader of the new season.
The Lady Ravens rolled to a 69-22 win over Fort Scott. The Raven defense was stifling once again, forcing 28 turnovers and holding the Greyhounds to 19% shooting.
Norika Welch had 13 points and three steals to pace CCC. Assistant Coach Kamri Anderson says she can do it all.
Former IHS point guard Camdyn Eytcheson impressed in the fourth quarter, having five points, two assists and three steals. Anderson says the local product is already making an impact.
The men's team also impressed in their first game at Nellis Hall this season, racing away from the Allen County Red Devils 93-58.
The Ravens shot 50% from the field, and also dominated the rebound battle, and played aggressive defense all night.
Assistant Coach Jordan Bailey says the team has made effort the biggest priority.
Coach Herkelman challenged Raven fans to make Nellis Hall the toughest place to play in the conference this season. Bailey says on Opening Night, the fans delivered.
The women are 3-0 on the young season, while the men improve to 2-1. Both teams are in action again Monday night for a doubleheader at Nellis Hall, with coverage beginning at 5 p.m. on US 98 and the Red Raven Sports Network.
