It was a promising opening weekend for Red Raven basketball.
The Lady Ravens begin their year with a 2-0 weekend at the Gilham's Classic, beating Connors State College 88-55 on Friday night before beating NEO 69-53 on Saturday.
The Raven offense was fluid despite plenty of new faces. Assistant coach Sierra McBride says it was a strong first impression.
Freshman Aspen Clarkson led the team with 17 points on Friday. McBride says she's a player that other teams can forget about.
The Lady Raven defense forced more than 40 turnovers on the weekend. Sophomore Ava Baker says the team has made it a priority this year.
The men open the season 1-1, falling to Moberly Area 82-78 on Friday night, before a bounce back 80-72 win on Saturday. Both teams are at Nellis Hall tomorrow night for the first doubleheader of the season, with coverage beginning at 5:10 p.m. CT on US 98 and the Red Raven Sports Network.
