Royals captain Salvador Perez was a key part of the team's run to the ALDS this season, and now the captain is being honored off the field.
Perez was named the recepient of the Roberto Clemente Award, which is awarded each year to the player who showcases outstanding efforts to service and community.
MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred says this is a major accomplishment for any player.
Perez has contributed in both his home nation of Venezuela, as well as the United States, distributing food and kitchen supplies, as well as baseball equipment and clinics to promote education and safety.
He says he's very proud of this honor.
Perez is a nine-time All-Star on the field, and is just the fourth Royal to ever receive the captain honor, joining George Brett, Frank White, and Mike Sweeney.
