The Red Ravens tip off basketball season next week, and are projected to be among the championship contenders in the Jayhawk Conference.

 

Coffeyville is ranked No. 5 in the preseason conference projections, and are also receiving votes in the national Top 25 rankings. Defending National Champion Barton enters the favorite to repeat, with Hutchinson No. 2, Garden City third, and Cowley at No. 4.

 

Head Coach Jay Herkelman enters his 30th season as the head coach of the Ravens. He says the title contenders in this league are legit.

 

Although Hutchinson, Coffeyville, and Barton are regulars at the top of the league, there are other teams in the chase for a championship. Herkelman says there have been a few other schools that have caught his eye.

 

With the combination of talent across the thirteen conference schools. and the distance traveled to road games, the KJCCC is one of the most difficult leagues in junior college. Herkelman says you have to be ready to play every night.

 

Coffeyville opens the season on the road against #17 Moberly Area on November 1st at 7 p.m.
