Changes Coming to KSHSAA Playoff Seeding

Postseason changes are coming to high school football in the state of Kansas.

The seeding will be done differently for Classes 3A, 2A, and 1A moving forward. The new format will match the method that is used in 6A, 5A, and 4A.

District champions will be seeded No. 1-4 based on record and head to head tiebreakers. District runner-ups will be seeding No. 5-8 based on the same criteria.

The same method will be used to seed 3rd place and 4th place teams No. 9-16 to complete the state tournament bracket.

The seeding format ensures different annual matchups each year in the state playoffs, avoiding repetiive district matchups every season. It also allows flexibility for a district with multiple state title contenders to have numerous teams go deep in the playoffs.

The 2024 high school football playoffs begin on November 1st, with state championships taking place on November 29th and 30th.
