Two playoff spots are up for grabs in the American League, and the Kansas City Royals are one of three teams within one game of each other.
Kansas City is in a virtual tie with the Detroit Tigers for the last two playoff spots. The Royals do hold the tiebreaker over Detroit. The Minnesota Twins are one game back of both KC and Detroit.
Kansas City has been limping to the finish line however, losing seven straight games, and making what appeared to be a near lock to make the postseason, a sprint to the finish. Manager Matt Quatraro says the team hasn't been able to get in a groove recently.
The boys in blue haven't qualified for the postseason since 2015. Quatraro says it's time for the team to dig deep.
The Royals are off today, and wrap up the regular season against the Nationals and Braves this week.
