High school football Week 1 is here, and the West Elk Patriots are hoping to make another deep postseason run.
The Patriots went 9-2 a season ago, advancing to the third round of the state playoffs before falling to the Lyndon Tigers.
The team returns multiple key starters on each side of the ball. Head coach Chris Haag says the team has three key seniors that will lead this year's group.
The Patriots are notorious for having a suffocating defense that wears out opposing teams. Haag says a key to this is understanding your role and trusting your teammates.
West Elk opens the season at home on Friday night against Argonia/Attica.
