Chiefs Sign Smith-Schuster, Release Toney

There were significant changes to the Chiefs wide receiver room during roster cuts.

Former KC wideout Juju Smith-Schuster has re-signed with the organization on a one year deal. Smith-Schuster was released by the Patriots earlier this month after one season. He spent 2022 in Kansas City, collecting 933 receiving yards and winning Super Bowl LVII.

The team has also announced the release of Kadarius Toney, a former Giants first round pick who was acquired in 2022. Toney has highs and lows in Kansas City, having crucial plays in a Super Bowl LVII win over the Eagles, but struggling to make an impact in 2023 and losing favor in the ranks.

Kansas City's Week 1 receiving core currently features seven players, with Rashee Rice, Marquise Brown, Xavier Worthy, Justin Watson, Smith-Schuster, Skyy Moore, and Mecole Hardman currently holding roster spots.

Kansas City opens the season against the Baltimore Ravens on September 5th.
