Independence Community College gets the volleyball season started with a tournament this weekend in Dallas, Texas.

 

The Pirates are looking for momentum to open the 2024 campaign under new head coach Alex Lehocky.

 

Sophomore defensive specialist Jana Bachmann says the team has been particular with details.

 

The team is very young, with the roster mostly comprising of freshmen outside of Bachmann, and sophomore setter Valeria Martinez. Martinez says the young outside hitters will need to think quickly at the college level.

 

With a very new group, Lehocky is hopeful her sophomores can emerge as leaders on the court for the new players. Bachmann says, however, you have to be a leader at all times.

 

The Pirates open against Ranger College this afternoon, before wrapping up the tournament with a doubleheader tomorrow.
