It's a new era for Cherryvale Charger athletics, with the hiring of a new Athletic Director.

 

Kandra Smith takes over as the head of Charger athletics, replacing the outgoing Rodney Vigil. Smith says the opportunity was one that made sense for her entire family.

 

Cherryvale has been one of the more consistent high schools in Southeast Kansas in recent years, putting out consistent competitive teams in football, basketball, volleyball, and track. Smith says the competitive spirit of Charger athletes is homegrown.

 

Smith took over as AD at the beginning of the summer, but still has plenty she wishes to accomplish. She says her primary goal is to add improved facilities for the school's athletes.

 

Cherryvale will once again be one of the highlighted teams on the KGGF High School Game of the Week, bringing select Charger football and basketball games all season long.
