Despite having their best start to a season in nearly a decade, the Kansas City Royals still entered the 2024 MLB Draft with the sixth overall pick.
The Royals were on the clock, and used their selection to draft one of the most exciting college baseball players in the country.
Caglianone is an exciting talent out of Tampa, Florida, and led the Gators both as a hitter and pitcher in his junior season. He was a first-team All-American in both his sophomore and junior seasons, and led Florida to the College World Series this year.
Caglianone projects as a better hitter than pitcher, but is capable of doing both, which the Royals will allow him to attempt at the professional level. He struck out 83 hitters in 73 innings on the mound, and slashed .419 with 35 home runs at the plate.
He says he's excited to get to work in Kansas City.
Caglianone will immediately become one of the top prospects in the organization, along with 2023 first round pick Blake Mitchell.
