One of basketball's biggest icons and most well-known stars has passed away.
Jerry West was named to the Basketball Hall of Fame three times in his career as a player, coach, and executive. He was just the third player ever to score 25,000 points, including being an all-star every season of his career, and leading the Lakers to nine NBA Finals appearances.
ESPN's Mike Greenburg says the impact West had on the sport is timeless.
West's fingerprint on basketball spans nearly a century, having played with Elgin Baylor and Wilt Chamberlain, and more recently working with Stephen Curry, Kobe Bryant, and Kevin Durant.
Greenburg says he excelled in every role he played.
The NBA is planning a tribute to Jerry West tonight, before Game 3 of the NBA Finals between the Boston Celtics and Dallas Mavericks.
