Royals' Massey Placed on Injured List

The Kansas City Royals will be without their second baseman for the next few weeks.

Michael Massey was placed on the 10-day injured list with a low back ligament sprain, suffered over the weekend in Tampa Bay.

The injury is an aggravation of the same injury Massey suffered in spring training, causing him to miss the first three weeks of the season. He homered on Friday night, before leaving the game in the sixth inning.

Manager Matt Quatraro says Massey's injury hasn't worsened, but he will need a few more days of rest before beginning baseball activities. Massey will receive a specific treatment plan when the team returns to Kansas City this week.

Massey has taken a step forward this season, hitting .294 with six home runs and 23 runs batted in. Shortstop Nick Loftin will take Massey's place on the roster.
