NBA Player Banned for Life for Gambling

One of the harshest punishments in sports history has been given out, with an NBA player receiving a lifetime ban for gambling.

Forward Jontay Porter of the Toronto Raptors has been banned from the National Basketball Association, after an investigation found evidence of disclosing confidential information to bettors, limiting participation in NBA games, and betting on NBA games while playing in the G League.

Porter was placed under investigation last month, after suspicious betting patterns were detected by sportsbooks in two separate games. In each of the games in question, Porter exited just minutes into the game.

ESPN Radio's Joe Fortenbaugh says you can't get away with something like this.

The league investigation determined Porter placed at least 13 bets on NBA games, ranging from $15 to $22,000, totaling over $54,000.

Porter went to the University of Missouri, and is the brother of Nuggets forward and NBA champion Michael Porter Jr.
