KSHSAA Approves Shot Clock Trial Run

Kansas high school basketball will see a drastic change for the 2024-25 season.

The KSHSAA Executive Board has approved a 35-second shot clock to be used on a trial basis. The shot clock will be an option for all member schools for varsity girls and boys games.

At the October Regional Administrator meetings, the shot clock was favored by classes 6A and 5A, however, the total vote did not favor implementation. This led to the trial system being adopted, where schools will have the choice to opt in.

Participating schools will be required to fill out a short survey after each game, so that KSHSAA can collect data on the shot clock experience. Schools opting in to the shot clock must notify the KSHSAA by October 1st.
