Royals Land Two Pitchers in Free Agency

Not many teams have been as active in free agency this week as the Kansas City Royals, who reached an agreement with two more pitchers yesterday.

Right-handed pitcher Seth Lugo joins the team on a three year deal, worth $45 million. Lugo spent much of the start of his career in the Mets bullpen, before the San Diego Padres moved him to the starting rotation last season, where he thrived with a 3.57 ERA.

MLB Network's Mark DeRosa says the addition of Lugo will help the young pitchers.

Kansas City also signs right-handed reliever Chris Stratton to a one year deal. Stratton is an experienced arm with one of the best curveballs in the league, and has had an ERA below four since 2020.

Royals pitching was among the worst in baseball in 2023, however the club has added three veteran arms this week that have made the 2024 outlook much more interesting.
