Lance Leipold and the Kansas Jayhawks make their first significant addition in the transfer portal, bringing a former Kansas high school star home.

 

Tight end DeShawn Hanika announced he will be spending his final college football season in Lawrence, following two seasons at Butler Community College, and the following four seasons at Iowa State University.

 

He, along with four other teammates, was suspended for the entire 2023 season for gambling, after being accused of betting on Iowa State basketball games.

 

Hanika says he embraces the comeback mentality.

 

Hanika is a Topeka native, that emerged as a key weapon for the Cyclones in 2022, catching four touchdown passes. He says Jayhawk fans can expect a hard worker.

 

The senior will be a key part of the 2024 Jayhawk offense.
