The Kansas City Royals have been active in the pitcher market all offseason, finalizing a signing for a notable reliever.
Left-handed pitcher Will Smith is closing on a one-year deal with the Royals, worth $5 million, with additional performance bonuses.
Smith made his MLB debut in Kansas City in 2012, and has spent time with five other teams in the decade since. He has been a part of the last three World Series champions, with the Braves in 2021, Astros in 2022, and Rangers last season.
Smith pitched nearly 60 innings last season, striking out 55 batters. He will bring veteran leadership and experience to a team that had the second worst bullpen in the league last season.
