Lady Raven Sophomores Ready to Take Next Step

A new basketball season is dawning at Coffeyville Community College, and the Lady Ravens have championship aspirations on their mind.

Tony Turner enters his 5th season as head coach with an interesting roster, having four key returners in the starting lineup, but an inexperienced bench lacking in game minutes.

The Ravens went on a magical March run to the Region VI championship game a season ago. Sophomore point guard Tetona Woods-Blackowl says the team accomplished more than people expected.

Players like Woods-Blackowl and sophomore guard Kyleigh Ortiz will be tasked with being captain-type players for this year's team. Ortiz says they got some leadership experience last season.

Coach Turner has become one of the best in the league at maximizing talent on the team. Sophomore Bailey Layman says Turner and his players have a special relationship.

The Lady Ravens open the season in two weeks against Labette County.
