Royals Trade Aroldis Chapman to Rangers

The Kansas City Royals have dealt one of their top bullpen pieces to Texas in a trade.

Left-handed arm Aroldis Chapman has been traded to the Texas Rangers in exchange for left-hander Cole Ragans and outfielder Roni Cabrera.

The primary piece of the deal is Ragans, a 25 year old pitcher from Gainsville, Florida, who was a first round pick of the Rangers in 2016. The Royals intend to use Ragans as a starter, and he will report to Triple-A Omaha.

Cabrera is an outfielder in the Dominican Summer League, signed by the Rangers last year. After a struggle-filled first season in pro ball, Cabrera has been impressive this year in 16 games, walking nearly twice as much as striking out, and an OPS well over 1.000.

Chapman had a 2.45 ERA and 53 strikeouts for the Royals this season after signing a one year deal in January.
