Chiefs in Extension Talks with Chris Jones

One of the most important pieces of the Kansas City Chiefs defense is looking for a new long-term contract.

Defensive tackle Chris Jones was absent from both mandatory minicamp last week, as well as the ring ceremony for the team. The latter, however, was due to Jones being sick, according to his agent.

Chiefs General Manager Brett Veach says he's confident they will work out a deal in time.

Jones has said in the past he wants to be a Chief for his entire career. He is currently the seventh highest paid defensive tackle in the NFL.

Veach says that the organization has worked well with Jones's agent in the past, and both sides will negotiate in good faith.

Jones was a finalist for Defensive Player of the Year last season, with a career high 15.5 sacks, 29 quarterback hits, and 17 tackles for loss.
