A season where nothing has seemed to go the Royals way just got a little tougher this week.

 

Young star first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino will undergo surgery to repair a torn labrum in his shoulder and will miss the remainder of the 2023 season.

 

Pasquantino was placed on the injured list on Saturday with shoulder instability, and further MRIs revealed structural damage. He says it is a horrible feeling to not be able to help the team improve.

 

An 11th-round pick in the 2019 draft, Pasquantino is viewed as a leader and captain-type player in the Royals clubhouse, just one season into his career. He says he intends to continue helping the team in a leadership role moving forward.

 

With Pasquantino out, the Royals will give every day at-bats to another promising young hitter, with Nick Pratto expected to assume that role.
