Bill Self is in the discussion for best head coach in college basketball, but a pair of Kansas assistants are also considered among the best in the country.

 

Both Kurtis Townsend and Norm Roberts were among the 50 assistant coaches named to the 2023 Most Impactful High Major Assistant Coaches in Division 1 Basketball list.

 

Townsend has been with the program for 20 years, and has been a part of two national championships, nine Big 12 tournament titles, and 16 regular season conference titles. He also has been the mastermind behind recruiting Jayhawk stars such as Jalen Wilson, Ochai Agbaji, Andrew Wiggins, and others.

 

Roberts has been part of the staff since 2012, and served as interim head coach for nine games last season, during a suspension and health issues from Self.

 

Kansas State associate coach Ulric Maligi alson made the list.
