Lorenzo Cain to Retire a Royal

A Royals legend, postseason hero, and one of the most recognized players of the 21st century in Kansas City will retire a Royal this weekend.

Lorenzo Cain will sign a one-day contract with the organization and officially retire from professional baseball prior to the game against the Oakland Athletics.

Approximately 30 minutes before first pitch, there will be an on-field celebration of Cain, with expected special guests in Royals Hall of Fame manager Ned Yost, former teammates Salvador Perez and Alex Gordon, and special assistant to the GM, Rusty Kuntz.

Cain played seven seasons in Kansas City, where he emerged as a fan favorite and consistent star with the most talented Royals teams of the 2000s. He is a two-time All Star, 2014 American League Championship Series MVP, four-time Wilson Defensive Player of the Year, and was a captain on the 2015 World Series team, finishing 3rd in MVP voting that season.
