Royals Struggle in Season Opening Sweep

The 2023 Royals season bus, that was full speed ahead during spring training, had a flat tire during the opening weekend of the regular season.

Kansas City was swept by the division rival Minnesota Twins, losing 2-0 both Thursday and Saturday, and falling by a score of 7-4 on Sunday.

There were solid pitching performances all weekend for the Royals, with Zack Greinke going 5.1 innings on Opening Day and Jordan Lyles impressing in his KC debut also in 5.1 innings.

The offense struggled mightily, only scoring four runs in the series. The early slump matches the 1999 Royals for the fewest runs scored through the opening three games in franchise history.

Royals manager Matt Quatraro is confident, however, that the offense will turn it around quickly.

Kansas City will look to turn it around this week, hosting the Toronto Blue Jays for four games before heading west for a matchup with the San Francisco Giants.
