New Royals Reliever Delayed due to House Fall

A pitcher that is expected to be a vital piece to the 2023 Royals bullpen will be delayed a few days due to an unconventional injury.

Left-handed pitcher Aroldis Chapman was supposed to make his Royals debut over the weekend, but will be delayed due to facial injuries suffered in a fall at his home. Chapman slipped on Saturday night, and cracked a tooth as well as split open his lip, requiring stitches and a trip to the emergency room.

Due to the pain and lack of sleep, Royals manager Matt Quatraro pushed Chapman's debut for KC back a few days. Chapman played catch and took fielding practice earlier today, and is expected to throw a bullpen tomorrow and make his game debut later this week.

Chapman says despite the odd situation, he feels good and is ready to help the team.

The reliever is coming off a disappointing season with the Yankees last year, and signed a one year deal with the Royals in an attempt to revive his career at the age of 34.
