Red Ravens Prepare for Cloud County Doubleheader

Following a bye earlier in the week, the Coffeyville Community College Red Ravens hit the road for a weekend doubleheader with the Cloud County Thunderbirds.

The Lady Ravens enter the day 11-9 in conference play, and trying to snap a four game losing skid. The Thunderbirds are 9-11 in conference play and looking to earn a huge win in their quest for a first round home game in the playoffs.

The Thunderbirds are one of the toughest teams to play on the road in the KJCCC, and coach Tony Turner says it will be a dogfight for his team today.

Cloud County won the first matchup 70-53, behind 25 points from Maimouna Sissoko. The Thunderbirds had four players score in double figures, and scored 15+ in each of the four quarters. The Lady Ravens struggled and only converted on six 3-pointers, and shot 28% for the game.

The men's team is back in 1st place following losses by Dodge City and Butler. Coach Jay Herkelman says that if the Ravens can stay where they are at in the standings, they will recieve a first round bye followed by a home game.

CCC ran away in the first matchup with Cloud, outscoring the TBirds by 11+ in each half. The Red Raven defense stepped up big, holding Cloud to 35% from the floor, and just 4-18 from beyond the arc, as well as forcing 19 turnovers.

Coverage of the Coffeyville Community College doubleheader with Cloud County begins at 1:45 p.m. CT on KUSN 98.1 FM. Tip of Game 1 is scheduled for 2, with the second game immediately following.
