Two Coaches Honored, Record Breaking Performance and Indy Completes Season Sweep

Two tennis coaches are honored and a record-breaking night for a Bulldog as Independence completes the season sweep of Coffeyville with the Lady Nado falling 41-27 and the Nado boys 42-36.

The Lady Nado would keep it close early but would struggle offensively in the second quarter being outscored 14-4. The Lady Nado defense would hold Indy to eight points in the third and nine in the fourth but only managed to score eight in the third themselves and seven in the fourth. Abby Veile would lead all scorers with 14 and Cam Eytcheson would add 11. Chaunte Porter would lead the Lady Nado with seven.

In between the girls' and boys' games, KSHSAA Executive Director Bill Faflick was in attendance to honor a former Independence tennis coach. Ken Brown received his plaque from Faflick for being inducted into the KSHSAA Hall of Fame. Then at halftime of the boy's game, current Indy Girl's Tennis Coach Gina McLenon was honored as the 4A Girl's Tennis Coach of the Year.

In the boy's matchup, Indy would jump out to an early lead going on a 13-0 run to start the game. The Nado would answer with an 8-0 themselves to cut the lead to five led by Keshawn Hayes who had six of the eight points. The Nado would find themselves down just two at the half, 21-19, and would tie it up heading into the fourth quarter at 28. Free throws and costly turnovers would be the difference in the fourth quarter. The Nado would go 0-6 from the free throw line in the fourth including two misses in the final mine and a half of the game. Indy shot 12/16 from the free throw line in the fourth, making key free throws in the game's final minute to keep the Nado out of reach. The Bulldog's Easton Ewing would finish with 11 points making him Indy's all-time leading scorer with 1,194 points passing Casey Alexander, who had the record at 1,192 points.

Both Nado teams fall to 5-11 and will face Parsons on Tuesday with tip-off for the Lady at 6:00pm.
