Red Ravens Split Showdown with Barton

A difficult road trip to Barton Community College over the weekend ended with the Red Ravens spliting a doubleheader with the Cougars.

The Lady Ravens dropped their second consecutive game, falling 70-51 against Barton. The game was close for a majority of the afternoon, but Barton was able to pull away late, outscoring the Ravens 26-14 in the final frame.

Kyleigh Ortiz and Kennady Roach each had 9 points for CCC, but it was a struggle to find offense for the Ravens. The Cougars starting five outscored the Coffeyville starters 63-34 in the game.

In the men's game, the Ravens found themselves down by 11 early, but a 26-2 run in the final stages of the first half and early second half was enough to give CCC a 95-86 win. The win keeps Coffeyville in 2nd place in the KJCCC standings.

The Red Ravens shot 28-28 at the free throw line, a remarkable feat for a team that has struggled much of the season at the charity stripe. Nathan Johnson had a season high 31 points, and Camian Shell had 18 points and 9 rebounds as well.

Coffeyville Community College returns to the court on Wednesday night at Nellis Hall against the Hutchinson Blue Dragons. Coverage begins at 5:30 p.m. CT on KUSN 98.1 FM.
