Red Ravens Unable to hang on Against Butler

A hostile environment and a talented oppponent proved to be a lethal combination for the Coffeyville Community College Red Ravens on Wednesday night.

The Lady Ravens were unable to complete the season sweep of the Lady Grizzlies, falling 68-56 in Game 1 of the doubleheader. The Ravens fall to 17-6 on the season, and the loss drops them to 4th place in the conference standings.

Freddie Wallace was the story for Butler all night long, posting 31 points on 10-17 shooting, including an impressive 11-15 at the free throw line. Randi Harding also contributed 15 for Butler on five made 3-pointers.

Bailey Layman and Kyleigh Ortiz combined for 27 points and eight 3-pointers for CCC, but it was not enough as the team only shot 26% from the field.

The men's game featured a very similar script to the first meeting with the Red Ravens holding a halftime lead, before Butler erupted in the 2nd half for a comeback victory 83-75.

Rob Brown and Isaiah Williams each had 16 points for the Grizzlies, who as a team shot 49% from the field on the evening. Butler also was able to win the battle on the glass, outrebounding the Red Ravens 38-29.

Hayden Brittingham was the best player for Coffeyville, with a game high 22 points and 10 rebounds as well. Jordan Wildy and Amare Haynie each had 12 points as well for the Red Ravens.

Coffeyville will be back in action on Saturday afternoon against the Barton County Cougars. Coverage begins at 2 p.m. on KUSN 98.1 FM.
