Coffeyville CC MBB starts tonight

There always seems to be great excitement surrounding the start of Coffeyville CC Red Raven basketball season, and the 2022-2023 edition brings no exception.

The Red Ravens will open tonight at 7:30 p.m. facing off with Southwestern JV. CCC is coming off a season where they finished 18-13, and 14-9 in conference play.

Although the roster is very inexperienced with 12 freshman, there is outstanding size, speed, and athleticism across the floor, particularly at the wings. Six players open the season listed at 6'6" or taller.

It is impossible to talk about Coffeyville basketball without mentioning head coach Jay Herkelman. Now heading into his 28th season at the helm of the Red Ravens, Herkelman is the winningest coach in NJCAA history, as well as a 2018 NJCAA hall of fame inductee.

A challenge presenting CCC this season is discovering who will emerge to help fill the void left by star guard Love Bettis, who transferred to North Carolina A&T. Bettis averaged 18.1 points per game last season, and Herkelman will experiment with different rotations and looks from his team to see who can become the top scoring option.
