Coffeyville baseball will hit the road for its first round matchup in the upcoming Region VI playoffs.

 

The Red Ravens split its season-ending series with the Fort Scott Greyhounds, dropping the first two games but turning things around and winning the final two.

 

All four games were played in Fort Scott due to field conditions at Walter Johnson Park. To secure a home playoff series, the Ravens needed to win at least three of those four. Coffeyville had put itself in position to at least give itself a chance to do so, carrying leads into the later innings during both games Friday. Unfortunately, a offensively-focused Greyhounds team was able to score runs in bunches, securing come-from-behind victories at 9-5 and 6-5.

 

Saturday, however, was a different story. The Ravens utilized great starting efforts from Christopher Spry and Kinson Michel to hold back a team that entered the weekend batting .360, giving up just 6 runs across both games. Meanwhile, the Coffeyville offense had just enough moments of its own to sneak by. Both games ended in favor of the Ravens, 3-1 and 9-5.

 

Although Coffeyville turned things around over the weekend, they'll still have to travel for the first round of the Region VI playoffs. As the 5-seed in the Jayhawk East, the team will be traveling to El Dorado, KS to take on Butler, the 4-seed in the Jayhawk West. The two teams will play a Best of 3 series, comprised of a single, 9-inning game on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of this week. The winners of the first round will travel to Manhattan for the Region VI Championships.
