Ravens Take Two Back From Neosho

The Coffeyville Red Ravens got their revenge Saturday, taking two games back from Neosho County on the road with finals scores of 8-5 and 11-4.

The first game was, for the most part, a back-and-forth affair. For every couple runs that Coffeyville managed to put across, Neosho were able to do the same the next inning. A small 2-0 lead in the 2nd was matched by a 2-run homerun in the 3rd. A 3-run homerun for Coffeyville's AJ Craft in the 4th was matched by 3 more Panther runs in the 5th. Fortunately, the Ravens were able to get the last laugh. Tied at 5 in the 6th inning, Coffeyville found RBIs on three consecutive at-bats; a single for Drew Cates, a single for Austin Gonzales, and finally, a groundout for Jackson Mannix added 3 runs. Ravens starter Christopher Spry went the distance again, shutting down Neosho in the bottom of the 7th to take the first game of the doubleheader.

Coffeyville bats continued to shine in the second game. Facing Neosho starter Dax Sharp, the Ravens batted around en route to rattling off 6 runs in the 2nd inning. After a scoreless 3rd and 4th, Coffeyville would add another 2 runs on a double by second baseman Quentin Platt. He'd finish with 4 total RBIs in the game, going 3-5 at the plate. Defensively, the Panthers found themselves unable to take advantage of their baserunners, a big difference from the rest of the series. Coffeyville starter Marcos Lopez worked himself out of several jams, keeping Neosho off the board and keeping the lead rather large. The Ravens added 3 more runs in the game's final few innings, giving Coffeyville an 11-4 victory and a the split of the series.

Coffeyville improves its record to 29-20, 13-15 in Jayhawk Conference play. They'll wrap up the regular season this week, with a trip to El Dorado (weather permitting) on Tuesday, a trip to Fort Scott on Thursday, then a home matchup on Saturday against that same Fort Scott team.
