Coffeyville Drops Two to Neosho

The Coffeyville Red Ravens dropped its first two games against the Neosho County Panthers on Thursday, losing 9-4 in the first game and then 9-7 in the second.

The Ravens fell behind early in the first game and were never really able to recover. Starter Chat Hayes gave up 4 runs in just the first inning, and although Coffeyville was able to get 2 runs in the 3rd and 5th innings, Neosho was there to answer each time in the very next half inning. The Panthers scored the game's final three runs in the 6th and 7th innings to run away with the 9-4 victory.

Coffeyville put up more of a fight in the second contest of the afternoon, but still were forced to play catch up for a majority of the game. After falling behind 3-0, the Ravens scored 3 runs right back to start up a whole new ballgame by the top of the 5th. However, Neosho would blow the game open again with a 3-run homerun in the 6th, and added 3 more in the 7th on a bases-clearing double. Coffeyville got hits here and there, and even put themselves in a situation with the go-ahead run on base in the top of the 7th, but a double-play ended any hope of a comeback as they fell 9-7.

Coffeyville drops to 27-20 on the year. They'll get another chance at Neosho this Saturday, playing in Chanute.
