Coffeyville Takes Two More Wins From OKWU JV

The Coffeyville Red Ravens took a break from conference play Monday, defeating Oklahoma Wesleyan's JV team 6-0 and 3-2 in two 7-inning contests.

The Ravens used Monday as an opportunity to get plenty of players involved, and that was most apparent on the mound. Coffeyville used 6 pitchers in the first game and 5 more in the second, with only Aaron Geisler (Game 1), Korey Aytes and Carlos Lopez (Game 2) going more than 1 inning. The committee approach to pitching worked for the most part through the first contest, with the Eagles occasionally threatening but never following through base hits. Meanwhile, Coffeyville used a 5-run 4th inning to jump ahead, taking a 6-0 lead that proved to be enough to cruise to a rather comfortable win.

Coffeyville also used an entirely new lineup for the second game, giving a rest to lineup stalwarts such as Orlando Gonzalez and Austin Gonzales. The offensive production, as a result, took a slight hit, but the Ravens still found enough to get by. Hunter Peacock tied things at 1 with a sacrifice fly in the 2nd inning, and after the Eagles retook the lead in the top of the 4th, a clutch 2-RBI single from Kolby Adams in the 5th put the Ravens ahead for good. Alex Galvez, the 11th and final pitcher for Coffeyville on the day, got the final three outs in the top of the 7th to give the Ravens the season sweep.

Coffeyville has improved its season record to 22-17. They'll return to conference play this Thursday, hosting the Barton Cougars.
