Red Ravens Splits Two with Allen County

Coffeyville split the first two games of its series with Allen County on Thursday, dropping the first game 10-6 but taking the second 10-7.

Ravens starting pitcher Chat Hayes had a slow start to Game 1, giving up 5 runs on 4 hits. He'd calm down after the 1st, keeping the Red Devils largely under wraps, and even giving Coffeyville time to slowly crawl its way back into the game. Jackson Mannix tied things up for the Red Ravens in the 5th inning on a 2RBI single, and Tanner Graves would put the team on top with an RBI single the very next inning, but the 6-5 lead was to be short-lived. Allen County scored another 5 runs in the bottom half of that 6th inning, and with Coffeyville unable to respond in the 7th, the game ended with a 10-6 Red Devil victory.

The second game also saw the Ravens come out of the gate rather slowly, as Allen County jumped out to a 4-0 lead after 3 innings. Brady Claypool brought Coffeyville back within 3 with an RBI triple in the 4th, but it was the 8th inning that truly saw the Ravens finally start to soar. Starting out trailing 4-1, Coffeyville sent 13 batters to the plate, driving in 9 runs on 7 hits to take a 10-4 lead heading into the final inning. A last-ditch Red Devil comeback effort fell short, with the Red Ravens getting their revenge for the earlier loss at 10-7.

Coffeyville is now 19-16 for the season. The team returns to Walter Johnson Park on Saturday, playing host to the same Red Devils squad.
