CCC Splits at Home Against JCCC

Coffeyville split its Monday doubleheader with Johnson County Monday, dropping the first game 7-6 but taking the second 5-4.

Game 1

The Red Ravens of Coffeyville fell victim to a late inning comeback in Game 1 of Monday's doubleheader, dropping an 8-inning contest 7-6 to Johnson County.

Coffeyville got itself on the run column early, as Quinton Carlberg snuck a line drive into left center that brought Orlando Gonzalez around from second in the bottom of the first. It was a one-two punch that proved to be all either offense could muster for the game's first three innings.

In fact, most of the the game's runs were gathered in the final few innings. Still leading 2-0 into the fifth inning, Coffeyville gave up 3 runs the fifth and 3 more in the sixth, but scored 4 themselves in the bottom of the fifth to keep things tied at 6. It'd stay that way through regularly scheduled innings, meaning extras were needed.

As it turned out, Johnson County only needed a half-inning to come out on top. They'd score the decisive run in the top of the eighth. With Coffeyville unable to respond, the Ravens unfortunately dropped their fifth straight at 7-6.

Game 2

Coffeyville battles back after trailing early to win on a walk-off 5-4. The Red Ravens found themselves down early in game two of the doubleheader as starting pitcher Marcos Lopez would face all nine Johnson County batters and give up three runs. CCC would answer in the bottom of the first with a run of their own, with Orlando Gonzalez scorning on a Jackson Mannix single. Both pitchers would settle in as we would go scoreless until the 5th inning.

JCCC added some insurance in the top of the fifth as Quinton Hall would score from second on a passed ball. CCC would cut the lead to one in the bottom of the fifth as Kolby Adams would score on an Austin Gonzales double and then Gonzales scoring himself on a ground out by Orlando Gonzalez. The Red Ravens were down to one out in the bottom of the 7th. Korbin Ford was hit by a pitch, Austin Gonzales drew a walk and then Orlando Gonzalez would walk it off.

Gonzalez finished with 3 RBIs including the two to win the game. Reliever Camden Gipson gets the win with 4 strikeouts in 3 innings pitched. CCC breaks a five-game losing skid. The Red Ravens are back in action on Thursday against Highland on the road and back on the air on Saturday at home against Highland.
