Red Raven Women See Season End at Home

An impressive streak of games came to an end, as the Red Raven women's basketball team dropped its first round Region VI tournament matchup 73-55 to Colby to end its season Saturday afternoon.

With two 30+ point victories previously in the week, 6th-seeded Coffeyville hoped to maintain that momentum against the 11th-seeded Trojans. The Ravens took an early lead, but the game's recurring theme showed itself just a little while longer. Colby became aggressive on the offensive glass, getting numerous chances to get their shots to fall. And fall they did, shooting 43 percent from the field on Saturday and a staggering 52 percent (13-25) from beyond the arc. With the Trojans' zone defense giving the Ravens fits on the other side of the court, Colby was able to swing for a 7-point lead at the half.

Coffeyville didn't go quietly in the second half, as the Red Ravens continued to fight back. The lead was reduced to just 3 points at several points, but each and every time, Colby was there to push it back out with repeated three-pointers. One last, particularly lengthy run pushed the lead to unreachable heights, with Coffeyville's season coming to a disappointing end.

Faith Simpson recorded 17 points in her last game for the Red Ravens. Coffeyville ends its season at 19-11. Colby moves onto the second round, where they'll face 3rd-seeded Seward County.
