Devils Burn Bullpups

A match-up of Tri-Valley opponents looked like a heavyweight fight with each team trading blows before Erie was able to knock off Caney Valley 47-37.

The teams were only separated by one point at the end of the 1st and 2nd quarters with Caney Valley in front each time thanks to Jack Billingsley who buried three 3-pointers in the first half. However, neither team could get away from each other as the lead changed hands eight times within a matter of minutes.

With Caney Valley leading 23-22, Erie made adjustments and started using the size of Eric Dillenger to overpower the undersized Bullpups. Dillenger who was only held to four points in the first half exploded for 14 in the second half. The Devils held a 33-30 lead going into the fourth quarter, but started to slowly pull away as the quarter wore on putting the game out of reach with timely free throw shooting from Ethan Bartholomew.

The Devils were led by Dillenger with 18 points followed by 14 points from Garrett Ruark. Caney Valley was paced by Billingsley with 16 points with Gage Grant adding 11.

Caney Valley will be featured in the next game of the week as they travel to Fredonia next Tuesday with tip-off at around 7:30 pm on US 98.1.
