Raven Women Break Skid With Victory Over Pratt

The Coffeyville women’s basketball team got back into the win column Wednesday, easily handling the Pratt Beavers 65-51.

Despite a record of just 3-21, Pratt had proven themselves to be a formidable foe in the games leading up to Wednesday. Just a few days prior, the Beavers had beaten conference-leading Independence on its home floor. Meanwhile, the Ravens had lost 5 straight contests, mostly to teams in the upper reaches of the Jayhawk Conference.

Both teams jumped out to a hot start on offense, with Coffeyville taking a 21-17 lead after the first quarter. That hot start wouldn’t last, with both teams being held scoreless through the first few minutes of the second quarter. Things eventually picked back up a tad, but the Ravens held on to a slim halftime lead of just 28-22.

The Ravens were able to bring back the offensive production of the first quarter right out of the break, opening the half on sizable run that gave the team its first double-digit lead of the game at 38-28. From there, it would be smooth sailing, as the short-handed Beavers couldn’t keep up with the energetic approach Coffeyville brought to the game. The clock continued to wind down and down and down, eventually expiring to give Coffeyville its first victory since January 29th.

Paige Scott led all scorers with 18, going 6-of-9 from beyond the 3-point line. Faith Simpson had 16, while Dariauna Carter added 10. The Ravens are 16-10 on the season, 10-10 in KJCCC play.
