Sedan Successful in Homecoming Battle with Erie

It was a successful homecoming for the Sedan Blue Devils, with both teams picking up blowout victories over the Erie Red Devils. The girls won 59-39, while the boys won their highly anticipated matchup 61-40.

The boys’ game carried plenty of intrigue, being a matchup between two top-15 teams in Class 2A. There were a couple of lead changes early on, but the Blue Devils led most of the first half. Sedan’s Dameion Hatten and Erie’s Garrett Ruark both reached double-digits by the start of the break, but it was Sedan who led into the locker rooms, 31-26.

After homecoming festivities at the break, things got going once again. The crowning of royalty invigorated the Blue Devils on both sides of the ball. A 16-4 third quarter blew the game open, and as Erie struggled to respond, the lead only grew bigger. After a climax of 24 points, the Blue Devils cruised to a 61-40 win over their top-15 counterparts.

Hatten put up another high-scoring performance for the Blue Devils, finishing with 24 total. Ruark recorded 16, but was limited a bit in the second half after getting into foul trouble. Sedan improves to 12-2 on the season, Erie falls to 13-3.

------------

The Blue Devil girls started the game on a 7-2 run, but Erie was determined to keep the game close for a time. After taking an 9-8 lead just a few minutes later, the Red Devils couldn’t seem to maintain that offensive momentum for the rest of the half. Sedan took full advantage of that, jumping out to a sizable 34-17 lead at the half.

Erie hung around for a short time after the break, but with the lead so massive, the Red Devils needed to go more than even to make any sort of comeback. Meanwhile, despite some struggles from the free throw line, Sedan found success from beyond, especially in the game’s final few minutes. The Blue Devils eventually cruised to victory, 59-39.

Sedan was led by Jacie Cummings, who had 18 points. Landrea Sears also reached double-digits, coming in with 17. Erie was led by Hailey McGowen, scoring most of her 9 points in the games’ second half.
